Investigation of theft, criminal mischief, burglary, and other property crimes are handled by the investigative units at each of Dallas' seven patrol divisions.
Southwest Division's team of detectives work thousands of cases each year. Working closely with the Deployment Team and with Patrol, the Southwest Investigative team's mission is to continue the work of patrol officers who usually are the first officers in the department to encounter criminal offenses. Detectives begin detailed investigations, looking for clues to help identify suspects of offenses. When a suspect (or suspects) is/are identified, detectives work with the District Attorney's office to file cases in court. Detectives, along with patrol officers, testify in court on cases they investigate.
