Interim Chief of Police

 

In October of 2024, Chief Igo was appointed as Interim Chief of Police of the Dallas Police Department, the ninth largest police department in the country.  With 33 years of law enforcement experience, he started his career in 1991 as a patrol officer in the southeastern part of the city. Chief Igo has held positions and commanded units in the Dallas Police Department that include Communications, Planning Unit, Crime Watch Executive Board, Patrol Division Watch Commander, Narcotics Division, Crime Suppression Unit, Major Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Task Force, Internal Affairs Division, Vice Unit, and served as the Departmental Liaison to City Hall.

Chief Igo was promoted to Police Major in 2019, Deputy Chief of Police in 2021, Assistant Chief of Police in 2022, and Executive Assistant Chief of Police in 2024 as commander of Investigations/Special Operations which included the Tactical and Special Operations Bureau, Community Operations Bureau, and the Investigative Bureau.

Chief Igo attended South Dakota State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Commercial Economics. He has attended the Leadership Command College at Texas A&M University, FBI Command College, Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), and the Caruth Police Institute Sergeant and Lieutenant Leadership schools. 

As Interim Chief of Police, he will make safety his core priority and make sure residents feel safe.  He will also remain focused on supporting officers mental and physical health.  He will continue building bonds in our communities and proactively engage our youth knowing this is essential for guiding them towards better decision making.  Chief Igo will explore new and fiscally responsive ways to attract officers from across the metroplex and beyond.   He will remain steadfast to keep Dallas one of the safest cities in the United States.
