Love Field Unit
The Love Field Airport Police Unit is responsible for security and traffic control at Love Field Airport. The Love Field Unit maintains a state of readiness to respond to the needs of passengers as they travel through Love Field Airport (DAL). Traffic enforcement, call response, and explosive detection are just a few of the responsibilities assigned to this Unit. Officers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Love Field Unit works in cooperation with a number of local, state and federal agencies, including the City of Dallas Department of Aviation, Dallas Fire-Rescue, Transportation Security Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, United States Secret Service, U.S. Customs Service, State Department, FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Love Field Unit Mission
The Love Field Unit’s mission is to provide and portray a safe environment for travelers, patrons, and employees at Dallas Love Field Airport through honesty, fairness, professionalism and respect for human life and personal dignity.
Explosive Detection Canine Squad
The Dallas Police Love Field Unit’s Explosive Detection Canine Squad consists of teams of officers and canines trained to detect explosives. The squad was established in 2002. The teams receive training during an intensive twelve-week program at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas that focuses on bonding, socialization and detection. The canines are used for explosive detection for vehicles, cargo, buildings, aircraft and baggage. They are not used for apprehension or attack work. There are several breeds utilized in the Squad including: German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and Veesladors.
Airport Security Tips
- Maintain control and do not leave personal items (purses, briefcases, electronic equipment, carry-on bags, etc.) unattended at any time in the airport or at curbside.
- Passengers are not allowed to enter areas posted as Restricted Area or Authorized Personnel Only. Please request assistance from nearest airport personnel.
- Report unattended items or suspicious activity immediately to airline personnel, TSA personnel, or the Love Field Police Unit at 214-670-6160.
