File A Complaint Against an Employee
This section of the website is only for filing a complaint against a Dallas Police Department
employee. If you believe you have been a victim of racial profiling, we encourage you to file a
complaint. Every report is taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. If you need to report a
criminal matter that does not involve a departmental employee, please dial 911. To report a
non-violent crime, please use the Dallas Online Reporting System (DORS) to submit an online
police report or consult the Department Directory for contact information related to your request.

What Comes Next
Please allow 30 days from the date we received your submission for the Internal Affairs Division and the
Office of Community Police Oversight to conduct a thorough review. Once the review is finalized, we will
communicate the outcome to you. It is important to note that, in certain instances, the review process
may extend beyond the initial 30 days.
Complaint Received: Once the department receives the complaint, it is logged and
assigned for a preliminary review.
Preliminary Review: During the Preliminary review, the Internal Affairs Division and the
Office of Community Police Oversight will conduct a preliminary assessment of your
complaint to determine the investigation route.
Investigation: If assigned for further investigation, the Internal Affairs Division or the
employee's division commander conducts a thorough and objective investigation.
Final Decision: The investigation is reviewed, and a determination is made regarding the
appropriate course of action to ensure professional police services.
Notification: The complainant and the involved officer are informed of the final
determination, although specific disciplinary actions remain confidential.
