New riders must pass a rigorous seven (7) week basic riding school and a written exam before they can patrol the streets. After the school, officers will complete their training by working with a senior rider for two (2) weeks. Training for horse and rider is a continuous process and both are exposed to elements in a controlled environment to help them successfully complete their patrol work.
